Innovative Strategies for Developing the Future Healthcare Workforce is the third annual conference hosted by Innovations in Global Health Professions Education (IGHPE).

The conference, being held from April 5-7, 2017 at the Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on the Bund hotel, focuses on the ever more pressing need to be able to deliver effective, integrated, accessible and affordable care across the world’s diverse populations.

The event is designed to stimulate discussion and action on a number of key healthcare issues, with special focus on China. These include:

• Developing a modern workforce to address the growing need of a burgeoning and aging population with chronic, non-communicable diseases
• The need for primary care in both rural and urban settings as well as the need for team-based provision of care
• The need to standardize education and training at the undergraduate, graduate and continuing professional development levels to ensure quality, safety and accountability
• To highlight innovations in both education and healthcare delivery locally, regionally, and internationally.

Attendees at this conference are leaders and stakeholders in health professions education, including educators, administrators, deans, program directors, and others from China, Asia, North America and the Middle East who are prepared to share their vision and expertise to transform the health professions learning experience to build the healthcare workforce. Our aims for this conference are to frame a vision, and stimulate creative thinking and collaborations that address the demand for effective, integrated, 21st century health professions education.

This conference provides an opportunity for participants to explore novel ideas, meet new friends and colleagues, and establish collaborative partnerships to drive innovation in health professions education, with the ultimate aim of improving patient care.
